submissions guidelines :
Submitting / Notification / Inclusions / Rights / Payment [ *update: Sept., 2005* ] -- Please read Guidelines carefully before submitting a feature to this journal -- (These guidelines apply to Features writing submissions only. Authors' Bookshelves is available exclusively to clientele of Hawkeye Studios literary services. Do not submit books to this journal.) 1. SUBMITTING: 1a. This is a paying market. If your writing is inspired and compelling, in any genre -- and you believe it may suit our venue -- we welcome your e-mailed submission. Forego the trite and the mundane: Give us something with personality -- with an edge! -- and we just might publish it here for everyone's edification. (We will edit, if necessary, but we trust that you will endeavor to provide a 'clean' submission.) 1b. We will consider first-time, simultaneous, and previously published submissions. 1c. Priority will be given to Canadian writers, but not to the total exclusion of others. Please, proudly indicate your citizenship and your current country of residence. 1c. We accept book / manuscript excerpts. Do not submit entire books / manuscripts. 1e. DO NOT SEND AS AN 'ATTACHMENT' ! INSTEAD, "SELECT" AND "COPY" FROM YOUR TEXT DOCUMENT , THEN "PASTE" IT TO THE BODY OF YOUR OUTGOING E-MAIL. For those who are not familiar with "Copy & Paste" functions: In your word processor's or text editor's Edit menu, click 'Select All'; then click 'Copy'. When you click 'Copy', your 'selected' text is invisibly copied to your system's Clipboard utility. When you then click "Paste" in your outgoing e-mail, the previously copied text will be transferred to the body of that e-mail just as if you had re-typed it. 1f. You may submit often, to a limit of 4 items per month and 1500 words maximum per item. If Items are published in serial installments (at our discretion) such as two-part stories, each part or installment will be considered a separate item, and payment will be made accordingly. 2. NOTIFICATION: 2a. Due to the volume of e-mail, we may only correspond with those writers whose submissions have been selected for publication. You will normally be notified within 90 days from the date of submission that we have selected your work for publication. 3. INCLUSIONS: 3a. Your item, if posted, will include your by-line. 3b. A brief writer's bio, if included, will be counted as part of the 1500 word limit of the submission. 4. RIGHTS: 4a. Submissions grant this journal non-exclusive electronic rights only, to post your submitted item in this journal for one consecutive period of no less than 120 days. Once accepted for publication, you may not withdraw your work during that publication period. Any re-posting of your work will require your permission, and you will receive the full payment that is in effect at the time of the additional posting. 4b. The Editor will determine the most appropriate category and placement of posted items. The Editor reserves the right to create appropriate categories without notice to published writers; and, further, the Editor may move any posted items to whichever category or section is then deemed by the Editor to be the most appropriate placement of those items. 5. PAYMENT: 5a. YOU WILL BE PAID ON-LINE through the quick and secure PayPal® payment service -- You must have a PayPal account set up in order to receive our payment. Paying writers exclusively through an online service is in keeping with our philosophy of support of the Internet as an unparalelled world-wide resource. 5b. You will be paid *$20.00 US for each item we publish. Payments for published items are posted to writers' PayPal accounts on notified acceptance for publication. 5c. *The cash payment / award amounts stipulated herein may be increased at any time; in which event the new amounts will first be posted in these Guidelines, and will only pertain to items published after the date of posted changes. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ( Sample previous published submissions through: www.waybackmachine.org ) -- If you understand and accept these Guidelines, Rights and Conditions of Publication, __/__/__/__/__/__/__/__/__/__/__/__/__/__/__/__/__/__/__/__/__/__/__/__/__/ front page |||||| featured: One | Two | Three | Four | Five | Six | Seven | Eight bookshelves: One | Two | Three | Four | Five | Six | Seven | Eight | Nine | submissions guide ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
